Posthumously honors Alabama native William A. Christenberry, Jr., as the Alabama Bicentennial Artist of the Year for 2017.

Recognizes Christenberry's 60-year career exhibiting photographs, drawings, sculptures, and prints in major art museums worldwide.

Acknowledges his service as art educator and professor at universities and art schools in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Washington, D.C., for over 50 years.

Notes his prestigious awards including the Lyndhurst Foundation Prize (1982), John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship (1984), Alabama Prize (1989), honorary doctorate from University of Alabama (1998), Dartmouth College artist in residence (2003), and Auburn University Weil Fellowship (2005).

Celebrates his artistic focus on Alabama's landscape, buildings, signs, cemeteries, and southern traditions that inspired generations of artists, writers, and scholars.
