Recognizes and commends five students selected as 2017 Young Heroes of Alabama: Meredith Annan, Noah Fondren, Kya Evangeline Qvale, Ricky C.H. Reynolds, and Katelyn Olivia Richard.

Young Heroes Program, presented by Alabama Public Television, honors students in grades 9-12 who excel academically, perform public service, overcome adversity, or inspire others through character and deeds.

Meredith Annan (Robertsdale High School) demonstrated courage providing care for her mother and grandmother while managing her own rheumatoid arthritis diagnosed at age 11.

Noah Fondren (Cullman High School) overcame anorexia nervosa and self-esteem issues through faith, and earned MVP of state baseball finals during sophomore year before signing with University of Alabama.

Kya Qvale (Sparkman High School) overcomes disability of being born without fully developed arms while excelling academically and volunteering; Ricky Reynolds (Lee High School) rose above disadvantages after losing his adoptive mother and excels in theater; Katelyn Richard (Hoover High School) volunteers with Relay for Life, reads to children, and earned the Finley Award for Outstanding Character twice.
