House Joint Resolution mourning the death and celebrating the life of Samuel Jenkins, Sr., of Daphne, Alabama, who died February 25, 2017, at age 90.

Samuel Jenkins, Sr. served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the rank of Technician IV and worked as a potato farmer, independent trucker, Industrial Specialist for the Alabama State Employment Service, and for the Del Monte Banana Company.

Served as the first African-American Commissioner and Chair on the Baldwin County Commission, served on the State Democratic Executive Committee, and held leadership roles on the Baldwin County Human Resources Committee and Intergovernmental Relations Committee.

Was a faithful member of Mount Aid Baptist Church and dedicated his life to improving his community and the quality of life for all Alabamians.

Survived by four sons (Samuel Jr., Alvin, Fenton, and Cedric), nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and other family members; was preceded in death by his wife Willa Jackson Jenkins and son and daughter-in-law Roderick and Beverly Jenkins.
