Commends Dr. Richard Showers for 28 years of outstanding service to the Huntsville City Council representing District 1, beginning October 3, 1988 and ending October 2016.

Recognizes Dr. Showers's 36 years of service as an educator with the Huntsville City School System before retiring June 30, 2005.

Acknowledges his numerous civic awards including the Greater Interdenominational Ministerial Fellowship Award, NAACP Award for Excellence, Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Award, and NAFEO Distinguished Alabama A&M University Alumni/Presidential Citation.

Notes his active involvement as a faithful member of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church serving in the Deacon Ministry, Laymen Department, and as Senior Adult Sunday School Teacher.

Directs that Dr. Showers receive a copy of this resolution in appreciation for his service to District 1 residents and his contributions to the community.
