Commends Dr. Richard Showers for 28 years of outstanding service to the Huntsville City Council representing District 1, beginning October 3, 1988 and ending in October 2016.

Recognizes Dr. Showers's 36 years of service as an educator with the Huntsville City School System before retiring on June 30, 2005.

Notes Dr. Showers has received numerous awards including the Greater Interdenominational Ministerial Fellowship Award, NAACP Award for Excellence, Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Award, and NAFEO Distinguished Alabama A and M University Alumni/Presidential Citation.

Acknowledges Dr. Showers's dedicated membership and leadership roles in Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, including service on the Deacon Ministry and as Senior Adult Sunday School Teacher.

Directs that Dr. Showers receive a copy of this resolution in recognition of his service to District 1 residents and his exceptional character and work ethic.
