Cortney C. Slaughter, assistant principal of Fultondale Elementary School in the Jefferson County School System, was named the 2017 National Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year for Alabama.

Slaughter earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Athens State University in 2007, a Master's Degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2012, and an educational specialist degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2014.

Slaughter has served as an educator in Alabama for 10 years, with three years of service as an administrator.

Slaughter created an atmosphere for parents and the community to engage in partnerships for student success.

The House of Representatives congratulates and commends Slaughter on her selection as the 2017 National Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year for Alabama by the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the Alabama Association of Elementary School Administrators.
