Recognizes Officers Corey Sarvaunt and Jonathan Mitchell of the Vestavia Hills Police Department as nominees for the 2017 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, Alabama's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

Officers Sarvaunt and Mitchell responded to an apartment fire at Vestawood Apartment complex on Columbiana Road in Vestavia Hills on January 14, 2016, where they rescued multiple residents from burning units.

Officer Mitchell caught a child dropped from the second floor while parents escaped the flames; the officers then evacuated affected apartments and cut a hole in a masonry wall to rescue a family of five trapped in a burning unit.

Two fatalities occurred during the apartment fire despite the officers' rescue efforts and immediate response to the life-threatening situation.

Directs that the officers receive a copy of this resolution as evidence of the legislature's admiration and esteem for their demonstrated courage, diligence, and quick response.
