Congratulates Keith York, principal of Opelika Middle School in the Opelika City School System, on his selection as 2017-2018 Middle School Principal of the Year for Alabama.

Recognizes York's 25 years of service as an educator in Alabama, including 16 years as an administrator, and his degrees from Auburn University (Bachelor's, 1993) and Troy University (Master's and Educational Specialist Degree, 2000 and 2002).

Commends York's implementation of the Be Nice initiative to develop positive character and behavior, which contributed to Opelika Middle School earning the 2016-2017 Alabama Safe School Award.

Recognizes York's creation of a Skills/Enrichment period that provides reading and math enrichment and project-based learning, resulting in increased proficiency on ACT Aspire assessments.

Acknowledges the National Association of Secondary School Principals' Principal of the Year Program, established in 1993, which honors outstanding secondary and middle level principals for providing high quality learning opportunities and exemplary professional contributions.
