Father Gary Ward New died on April 23, 2017, at 76 years of age; the House of Representatives mourns his death and celebrates his life and legacy.

Born May 4, 1940, in Madison, Wisconsin; joined the Salvatorian Brothers in 1964 and made his profession of vows on June 29, 1966.

Earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1971 from Dominican College in Racine and a Master's Degree from Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin; ordained as a priest on September 21, 1991.

Served as chaplain at St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee and held parish ministry positions in Alabama, including Associate Pastor and later Pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Huntsville from 2007 until his retirement in 2012.

Survived by his brother Walter, numerous nephews and nieces, and his brothers and sisters in the Salvatorian Family; preceded in death by his parents George and Florence and two brothers, George Jr. and Glenn.
