HR 56 Summary

• Commends Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and welcomes its leaders to the Alabama House of Representatives on the occasion of the 18th observance of AKA Day at the Capitol in 2017.

• Recognizes AKA's mission of "Service to All Mankind" and its more than a century of positive contributions to American life through the 2014-2018 administration's theme "Building Connection Strategies: Advocating, Monitoring, and Responding to Change."

• Acknowledges the sorority's second-year accomplishments of the Launching New Dimensions of Service program, including more than two million service hours and over five million dollars invested in scholarships across five program target areas.

• Notes AKA achieved a record 68,000 members and hosted its 67th Boule in Atlanta, Georgia in summer 2016 with 21,700 attendees, the largest Boule to date.

• Directs copies of the resolution be provided to AKA South Eastern Representative Dr. Sharon Shaw-McEwen, International President Dorothy Buckhanan Wilson, the International Connection Committee, and South Eastern Regional Director Mary B. Conner.
