SB158 Summary

• Revises membership of the Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Energy Policy by reducing the number of members appointed by the House Speaker from 5 to 4 and eliminating positions for the House Government Appropriations Committee Chair and Senate Finance and Taxation Committee Chair.

• Removes the requirement that the committee develop a comprehensive Alabama Energy Plan and replaces it with authority to conduct continuing study and make recommendations to the Governor and Legislature on energy policy.

• Deletes authorization for the committee to create and staff a Legislative Energy Policy Office, eliminating the director position and associated office operations.

• Authorizes the committee to form advisory subcommittees as needed, including: Biofuels and Alternative Fuels, Efficiency and Conservation, Environmental Issues, Infrastructure and Expansion, Renewable Power and Electric Generation, Research and Development, Technology and Communications, and Incentives.

• Changes minimum meeting frequency from once every four months to once every six months and requires the committee to elect a chair and vice chair every two years.
