AL SB161

Establishes a program requiring the Secretary of State and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to share electronic records (legal name, age, residence, citizenship, and electronic signature) from driver's license and nondriver identification card issuances and renewals for automatic voter registration purposes.

Treats the electronic record and signature from a driver's license or identification card application as a completed voter registration application if the applicant is qualified to vote under Article 8 of the Alabama Constitution and state law.

Prohibits boards of registrars from registering persons to vote during the 14-day period prior to any election.

Requires automatic updates to voter registration when an elector changes their address during driver's license renewal, with a new certificate of registration issued if appropriate.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
