SB184 Summary

• Amends Section 36-21-46 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to expand education requirements for law enforcement officer applicants.

• Adds graduation from nonpublic education programs as a qualifying education option, including private schools, church schools, parochial schools, religious schools, and home-school programs.

• Maintains existing education qualifications of high school graduation from State Department of Education accredited or approved schools and high school equivalency certificates from general educational development.

• Does not apply to persons already employed as law enforcement officers in the state who continue employment while changing positions or employers.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and Governor approval.
