SB189 Summary

• Amends Sections 9-11-244 and 9-11-245 of the Alabama Code to allow hunting whitetail deer and feral swine using bait, exempting these two species from existing bait prohibitions.

• Removes the blanket prohibition on using bait such as corn, wheat, grain, salt, or other feed as lures or enticements for whitetail deer and feral swine on private lands.

• Eliminates the previous 100-yard distance requirement and line-of-sight presumption that applied to baited hunting areas for these two species.

• Removes "baited field" from the list of prohibited methods in Section 9-11-245 for hunting protected birds and animals, further clarifying the exemption.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
