SB193 Summary

• Authorizes the Board of Trustees of Briarwood Presbyterian Church to appoint and employ one or more certified police officers to protect the safety and integrity of the church and its ministries.

• Requires all police officers employed under this authority to be certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission and meet all its requirements, including continuing education.

• Restricts the authority of church-employed police officers to the campuses and properties of Briarwood Presbyterian Church only.

• Grants employed officers all duties and powers of law enforcement officers in Alabama.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
