SB199 Summary

• Amends Section 22-8-4 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add a new provision for medical research consent.

• Maintains existing law allowing minors age 14 or older (or who have graduated high school, are married, divorced, or pregnant) to consent to medical, dental, health, or mental health services without parental consent.

• Allows persons age 18 or older to give effective consent to any legally authorized medical, dental, health, or mental health research without requiring consent from any other person.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or when otherwise becoming law.
