SB 256 Summary

• Requires circuit court clerks, district court clerks, and circuit court registers to forward all collected fines, forfeitures, prepaid docket fees, court costs, and other fees to the State Comptroller no less than once per month by the fifteenth day of each month, except for fees described in Section 12-19-20 or fees imposed by local law.

• Directs the State Comptroller to deposit all monies received in the State Treasury to the credit of the appropriate fund or agency as provided by law.

• Requires the State Comptroller to maintain and make available a monthly report of all fines, fees, and court costs collected by court clerks and registers.

• Becomes effective October 1, 2017, following passage and approval by the Governor.
