AL SB267

Requires all county superintendents of education to be appointed by the county board of education, except as otherwise provided by the Alabama Constitution of 1901.

Applies upon expiration of term or vacancy of any elected county superintendent occurring after January 1, 2021.

Allows county boards to continue services of an elected superintendent as an appointed superintendent for an additional term without following standard posting and selection procedures by executing a contract extension.

Requires county boards to notify elected superintendents by March 1 of the final year of their term whether the board intends to contract for an additional term.

Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
