AL SB30

Allows first-time DUI offenders with no prior alcohol or drug-related enforcement contacts in the preceding five years to stay their 90-day driving privilege suspension by installing an approved ignition interlock device on their vehicle.

Requires offenders to operate the ignition interlock device for six months and present proof of installation to the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency to obtain an ignition interlock restricted driver license.

Commutes the remainder of the suspension upon successful completion of the six-month ignition interlock device requirement.

Maintains existing suspension periods for repeat offenders: one year for one prior contact, three years for two to three prior contacts, and five years for four or more prior contacts in the immediately preceding five years.

Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
