SB332 Summary

• Amends Section 14-7-8 of the Alabama Code to exempt the Department of Corrections from purchasing through the Division of Purchasing of the Department of Finance.

• Allows the Department of Corrections to directly purchase equipment, raw materials, components, and supplies needed for manufacturing or producing prison-made goods without state purchasing procedures.

• Authorizes the Department of Corrections to engage supervisory personnel necessary to establish and maintain prison industries for utilizing prisoner services in manufacturing articles or products needed by state offices, departments, institutions, or agencies.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
