SB343 Summary

• Replaces all references to "apprentice athletic trainers" with "athletic trainer students" throughout Alabama athletic trainer licensing law.

• Requires all persons seeking licensure as athletic trainers to be qualified health care professionals who adhere to qualifications established by the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers and State Board of Medical Examiners and possess a national provider identifier number.

• Defines "qualified health care professional" as a health care provider recognized by the American Medical Association with appropriate credentials and national provider identifier assignment.

• Changes board composition requirement from "three Black members" to "three members of a minority race" on the nine-member Board of Athletic Trainers.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
