SB5 Summary

• Adds Section 28-3A-20.3 to the Alabama Code to authorize wine and beer tastings inside grocery stores licensed for off-premises alcohol sales.

• Defines "grocery store" as an establishment with at least $2,000,000 in annual sales, primarily selling food products, with six or more checkout lanes.

• Limits tastings to two-ounce servings per customer with no limit on number of servings, and requires tastings to commence between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and conclude within three hours.

• Permits tastings to be conducted by licensed manufacturers or distributors of wine or beer or their representatives, at no charge to consumers.

• Authorizes the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to adopt rules to implement and regulate these in-store tastings.
