SB55 Summary

• Increases the maximum length for stinger-steered type truck-tractor-semitrailer combinations from 75 feet to 80 feet.

• Increases the load extension allowance for truck-tractor-semitrailer combinations used exclusively for transporting motor vehicles from 3 feet to 4 feet in front and from 4 feet to 6 feet in rear.

• Allows vehicles with EPA-certified natural gas engines or EPA-approved conversion units to exceed vehicle weight limits by the difference between the weight of a natural gas tank and fueling system versus a comparable diesel tank and fueling system (maximum gross vehicle weight of 82,000 pounds).

• Makes the natural gas weight allowance available on federal interstate highways for vehicles with compressed natural gas or liquefied natural gas conversion equipment.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
