SB6 Summary

• Amends Section 16-4-1 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to establish new qualifications for candidates appointed to the position of State Superintendent of Education.

• Requires candidates to hold an Alabama certificate in administration and supervision based on requirements established by the State Board of Education.

• Mandates at least five years of experience in public school work at the time the person assumes office.

• Requires proof of at least three years of successful educational experience as a teacher, principal, supervisor, superintendent, educational administrator, or instructor in school administration during the five years preceding appointment.

• Requires candidates to hold a degree from a recognized four-year college or university and demonstrate knowledge in school administration.
