SJR100 Summary

• Creates the Auburn Aquarium and Zoo Feasibility Study Committee composed of all Lee County legislative delegation members, the mayors of Auburn and Opelika (or designees), and representatives from the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, Lee County Commission, and zoo/aquarium administration expertise.

• Committee shall study all aspects of establishing an aquarium and zoo in Auburn, including community interest, economic impact, location, construction costs, ownership, and related challenges.

• Committee chair and vice chair shall be elected by members at the first meeting, with appointing authorities coordinating selections to ensure racial, gender, geographic, urban, rural, and economic diversity.

• Committee must report findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the Legislature no later than the fifteenth legislative day of the 2018 Regular Session, then dissolve.

• Non-legislative members serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for necessary meeting expenses; legislative members receive standard legislative compensation, per diem, and travel expenses.
