Alabama became the nation's twenty-second state on December 14, 1819, and the legislature supports celebrating this bicentennial milestone.

The Alabama Bicentennial Commission has organized a three-year celebration with a kick-off on March 3, 2017, structured around three annual themes.

2017 will focus on "exploring our places" highlighting Alabama's geographic and historical sites from mountains to beaches to battlegrounds.

2018 will honor "our people" including military heroes, artists, farmers, teachers, and hometown heroes who shaped the state's history.

2019 will celebrate "sharing our stories" encouraging Alabamians to discover, preserve, and share their history and create new narratives about their communities.
