Recognizes the Rural Medical Scholars Program at The University of Alabama on its 20th year anniversary, a program offered by the College of Community Health Sciences that recruits rural Alabama students for training as primary care physicians.

Program graduates serve residents of rural and medically underserved Alabama counties, with 90 percent of all graduates entering medical practice in Alabama.

Program has received prestigious honors from the National Rural Health Association, and graduates have become leaders within state medical organizations including the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians.

Honors Dr. John Wheat, the program's Director and Founder, who was named 2007 Distinguished Educator of the Year by the National Rural Health Association and was inducted to the Alabama Health Care Hall of Fame in 2010.

Senate adopted the resolution on February 9, 2017, and the House adopted it on February 16, 2017.
