Senate Joint Resolution mourning the death of Horace Sellers Merrill of Heflin, Alabama, who died on February 17, 2017, at age 80.

Merrill was born October 15, 1936, in Micaville, Alabama; graduated from Cleburne County High School in 1954; and attended Southern Union Junior College in Wadley, Alabama.

Served as Circuit Clerk of Cleburne County for 12 years and as Probate Judge and Chairman of the Cleburne County Commission for six years; was a devoted member of Heflin Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Survived by wife Mary Thompson Merrill (married 53 years), son John Harold Merrill (Alabama Secretary of State), daughter Audrey Merrill Gillis, four grandchildren, and two siblings.

Alabama Senate adopted the resolution on April 25, 2017; House of Representatives adopted on April 27, 2017.
