HB124 Summary

• Amends Section 14-7-8 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to exempt the Alabama Department of Corrections from purchasing through the Division of Purchasing of the Department of Finance.

• Authorizes the Department of Corrections to directly purchase equipment, raw materials, components, and supplies needed to manufacture or produce prison-made goods without state purchasing requirements.

• Allows the Department of Corrections to engage supervisory personnel necessary to establish and maintain industries at penitentiaries, penal farms, or other institutions for prisoner labor in manufacturing products needed by state agencies and political subdivisions.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
