HB187 Summary

• Amends Section 36-21-2 of the Alabama Code to define a "working day" for subsistence allowance purposes as any period when a law enforcement officer performs duties for 4 or more hours within a consecutive 24-hour period.

• Eligible law enforcement officers from specified state agencies and departments receive a subsistence allowance of $12 per working day as defined by this amendment.

• Subsistence allowance becomes effective beginning the fiscal year commencing October 1, 2017, and is exempt from state and federal income taxes.

• Changes the term "Department of Public Safety" to "State Law Enforcement Agency" in the list of covered agencies.

• Effective immediately upon Governor's approval or upon otherwise becoming law.
