HB283 Summary

• Amends Section 41-9-236 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add an exemption to the Alabama Memorial Preservation Act of 2017 for Class 1 municipalities.

• Exempts architecturally significant buildings, memorial buildings, memorial streets, and monuments located on public property under the control of Class 1 municipalities from the preservation requirements.

• Adds this Class 1 municipality exemption to existing exemptions for state transportation property, county/municipal/university property, utility property, and Alabama State Port Authority property.

• Effective date is the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or when otherwise becoming law.
