HB306 Summary

• Requires the Department of Transportation or county/municipal highway departments to provide at least 24 hours notice to a candidate before removing campaign signs from highway rights-of-way.

• Applies only to campaign signs at least 4 feet in length on any side that are subject to state identification requirements under Section 17-5-12, Code of Alabama 1975.

• Department must contact the person, principal campaign committee, or political action committee identified on the sign and request removal by a specified deadline before removal occurs.

• Departments may remove and dispose of the sign in an appropriate manner only after the candidate fails to remove it within the specified timeframe.

• Notice requirement applies only within 150 days of an election for the candidate whose sign is subject to removal.
