HB350 Summary

• Allow active and contributing members of the Teachers' Retirement System with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and Master of Arts in Health Education to purchase up to two years of retirement credit for prior service as a graduate assistant.

• Eligible service must have been rendered in the School of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Alabama at Birmingham between September 1, 1996, and November 30, 1997, supporting an assigned faculty member.

• Members must pay the full actuarially determined cost for each year of claimed service to the system's Secretary-Treasurer within one year of the act's effective date.

• Members cannot receive credit for any service already credited in the Teachers' Retirement System or any other public retirement plan, except Social Security.

• Act takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
