HB40 Summary

• Amends Section 32-9-20 of the Alabama Code to modify vehicle size and weight restrictions for motor vehicles operating on compressed natural gas or liquefied natural gas.

• Increases maximum length allowance for stinger-steered truck tractor-semitrailer combinations from 75 feet to 80 feet.

• Increases front and rear load extension limits for truck tractor-semitrailer combinations from 3 feet front/4 feet rear to 4 feet front/6 feet rear.

• Allows motor vehicles with EPA-certified natural gas engines or EPA-approved conversion units to exceed weight limits by an amount equal to the difference between the weight of the natural gas tank/fueling system and a comparable diesel tank/fueling system, up to a maximum gross vehicle weight of 82,000 pounds.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
