HB447 Summary

• Creates the Alabama Task Force on School Safety and Security to conduct annual comprehensive reviews of state laws, rules, protocols, and minimum standards concerning school safety.

• Task force membership includes 24 positions representing state agencies, education systems, law enforcement, school boards, emergency management, and legislative leadership, appointed within 30 days of the bill's effective date.

• Task force shall identify gaps in school safety and security and submit legislative recommendations as needed to the Governor, Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and appropriate legislative committees.

• Task force must hold its first meeting no later than August 1, 2018, and meet at least once annually thereafter to determine if recommendations should be made to enhance school safety.

• Task force shall submit any legislative findings and recommendations to the Legislature in writing by December 31 of each year.
