HB48 Summary

• Amends Section 11-91A-2 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to authorize the Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound and its affiliated local centers to participate in the Local Government Health Insurance Program.

• Adds the Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound to the list of eligible entities that may participate in the program subject to board acceptance, along with counties, municipalities, fire districts, and various nonprofit organizations.

• Entities joining the program on or after June 1, 2018, that were not previously eligible are classified as "separate entities" with independently established premiums distinct from entities that joined before this date.

• Maintains existing provisions regarding program governance, funding from employer participant contributions, and withdrawal procedures requiring six months' notice by certified mail.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
