AL HB6

Prohibits the Commissioner of the Department of Human Resources from requesting a federal waiver of work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependents receiving SNAP benefits.

Defines "able-bodied adult without dependents" as individuals between ages 18 and 49 with no dependents who are not disabled.

Requires SNAP applicants and recipients meeting the above definition to work at least 20 hours per week averaged monthly, document participation in job training or education programs, or perform volunteer community service hours valued at their SNAP benefit amount.

Allows individuals who lose employment to receive SNAP benefits for three consecutive months without working or volunteering, with this grace period available only once per 36-month period.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
