Lawrence County High School is commended for outstanding performance in the Global Classroom STEAM Challenge, a Samsung Electronics America program bringing together teachers and students from five countries at the United Nations in New York City.

The school partnered with international counterparts from Brazil, China, Korea, and Tunisia over a 10-week period to develop solutions addressing economic, environmental, and social issues in their respective communities using STEAM skills.

Students used a virtual classroom platform developed by IVECA to collaborate with international partners to identify local community issues and develop presentations aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The resolution specifically names 14 student participants (James Huang, Erica McKelvey, Brady Cross, Alonzo Castro, Amelia Martines, Lauryn Robinson, Patti Ann Smith, Savannah Graham, Lauren Mayes, Thomas McCullough, Jacob Pearson, Paul Logston, Caleb Wilson, and Maggie Shelton) and 2 teachers (BeLinda Cross and Amy Speegle).

The resolution was adopted by the House on March 6, 2018 and by the Senate on March 15, 2018.
