Mr. Howell was born August 13, 1929, graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Textile Engineering, and served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Howell had a 40-year career with Russell Corporation in Alexander City, Alabama, retiring as President of Russell's Corporate Apparel Group and serving on the company's Board of Directors.

Mr. Howell was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church and was passionate about the Boy Scouts of America, Georgia Tech, golf, and family and friends.

Survivors include his sons John Scott Howell and David Louis Howell; daughter Elizabeth Howell Strickland; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
