Honors Devique McWilliams for his selection as a 2018 Young Hero of Alabama, presented by Alabama Public Television for students in grades 9-12 who excel in academics, public service, overcome adversity, or inspire others.

Recognizes McWilliams, a student at W.P. Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama, who survived meningitis at six weeks old when doctors did not expect him to live.

Acknowledges his achievements despite speech and learning delays from his childhood condition, including maintaining a 3.5 grade point average and participating in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC).

Notes his community service through the Alpha Elites fraternity, which visits churches, nursing homes, and colleges while assisting with community projects and serving the needy.

Commends McWilliams as a worthy role model for young Alabamians and offers the resolution in highest tribute and sincere best wishes for his continued success.
