McGill-Toolen Boys Basketball Team, led by Head Coach Phillip Murphy, achieved a 25-7 record despite losing eight seniors from the previous year and won the Class 7A Championship in 2016.

McGill-Toolen Lady Yellow Jackets, led by Head Coach Carla Berry, earned a 24-9 record as a young team with no seniors and only two juniors, with Freshman Nya Valentine scoring 25 points in a semifinal comeback victory over Sparkman.

The Lady Yellow Jackets program has made appearances in three of the last four state title games.

The House of Representatives honors and commends both basketball teams for their determination, effort, and devotion to the game, offering highest tribute to Head Coaches Phillip Murphy and Carla Berry and their athletes.
