Alabama Broadband Accessibility Act (Senate Bill 149) was passed on March 20, 2018 to encourage private investment in broadband infrastructure and increase high-speed broadband access to unserved rural areas.

Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) will establish and administer the broadband accessibility grant program and track progress on broadband access expansion.

County commissions in Alabama are encouraged to appoint a single point of contact to communicate and coordinate broadband issues with ADECA.

Each county must notify ADECA of the name of its designated broadband contact within 60 days after the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Act becomes law.
