SB12 Summary

• Eliminates the existing exemption allowing out-of-state licensed prosthetists, orthotists, or pedorthists to perform services in Alabama for up to 60 days per 12-month period after notifying the board.

• Adds a new exemption permitting clinicians certified or licensed in another state to provide prosthetic, orthotic, or pedorthic services at meetings of the Alabama Prosthetic & Orthotic Association (APOA), similar organizations, or at board-approved training events.

• Modifies Section 34-25A-5 of the Code of Alabama 1975 relating to the Board of Prosthetists and Orthotists licensure requirements and temporary exemptions.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
