SB173 Summary

• Exempts agricultural work dogs from local leash and restraint laws while engaged in agricultural work.

• Defines "agricultural work dog" as any dog trained to herd or protect livestock or otherwise assist in agricultural work that is actually or has been used for such purposes.

• Exempts hunting dogs trained to hunt wild game with a handler from local leash and restraint laws.

• Exception does not apply in wildlife management areas where leash laws remain enforceable.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
