SB195 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 15-20A-21 to authorize local law enforcement to post public notices on property where adult sex offenders subject to community notification reside.

• Adds "posting a public notice on the property where the adult sex offender resides" to the list of notification methods available in addition to required mail or hand delivery of flyers.

• Maintains existing community notification requirements for different jurisdictions: 1,000 feet radius in Birmingham, Mobile, Huntsville, and Montgomery; 1,500 feet in cities with 5,000+ residents; and 2,000 feet in smaller municipalities and unincorporated areas.

• Continues to allow alternative notification methods including posting at sheriff and police offices, local newspapers, electronic posting, and the Internet.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
