SB 214 Summary

• Motor vehicle owners may authorize the Department of Revenue to disclose their name, address, and email address to sponsoring organizations of distinctive license plates and public colleges or universities at the time of registration or renewal.

• Sponsoring organizations and colleges or universities are prohibited from reselling or disclosing the authorized personal information to third parties without written consent from the vehicle owner.

• The Legislative Oversight Committee on license plates membership is updated to replace the "Director of the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center" and "Director of Public Safety" with the "Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency or his or her designee."

• The bill adds the "Director of Transportation or his or her designee" and a "probate judge as appointed by the President of the Probate Judges Association" to the oversight committee membership.

• The act becomes effective January 1, 2019.
