Known as the Sadie Grace Andrews Act, requires commercial food service establishments with outdoor or publicly accessible grease traps to secure manhole covers with bolts, locking mechanisms, or sufficient weight to prevent unauthorized access.

Grease traps with manholes must be gas-tight construction and designed to withstand expected loads and prevent access by children.

Commercial food service establishments must ensure grease trap manholes are secured and locked at all times.

Food service establishments have six months from the effective date to comply; failure to comply results in a $500 civil penalty assessed by the Alabama Department of Public Health, with additional daily penalties for each day the violation continues.

The Alabama Department of Public Health shall adopt rules for implementation and administration; all civil penalty revenues shall be deposited in the State Treasury for use in administering and enforcing this act.
