SB 293 Summary

• Amends Section 32-6-212 to expand authorization for boat manufacturers and dealers to issue temporary license plates and registration certificates for boat trailers when boats are sold out of state and domiciled elsewhere.

• Allows boat manufacturers with plants in Alabama and boat dealers to apply to the department for authority to issue temporary plates and certificates for boat trailers used to transport boats destined for out-of-state domicile.

• Consolidates bond requirements by establishing that manufacturers and dealers must comply with bond amounts specified in Section 40-12-398, eliminating the previous $5,000 minimum requirement and condensed balance sheet alternative.

• Exempts manufacturers and dealers who have already obtained bonds under Sections 32-8-34, 32-20-22, or 40-12-398 from requiring an additional bond for boat trailer temporary plates and certificates.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
