SB 378 Summary

• Brings certain water authorities organized under Alabama Code Section 11-88-1 under the jurisdiction of the Alabama Public Service Commission, notwithstanding current exemptions.

• Applies to water authorities that served fewer than 7,500 clients during the 2017 calendar year and held or retained more than $5,000,000 in cash, cash equivalents, or securities at any time after January 1, 2018.

• Places qualifying water authorities under regulation by the Public Service Commission pursuant to Title 37 of the Alabama Code.

• Implementation procedures shall be determined by the Public Service Commission.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
