SB46 Summary

• Authorizes certified registered nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and physician assistants to sign health care forms and documents within their scope of practice, where physicians are otherwise required to sign.

• Permits these professionals to certify disability for disabled parking tags, sign physical examination forms for bus drivers, students, TSA/government employees, adoptive parents, and school/college physicals.

• Allows signature authority for do-not-resuscitate orders, birth certificates, workers' compensation forms, Family and Medical Leave Act documents, durable medical equipment authorizations, and one of two signatures on death certificates.

• Permits signing forms for medication orders, nutritional supplements, medical specialty referrals, home health services, physical therapy, diabetic supplies, ambulance transport, and skilled nursing facility assessments.

• Clarifies that this authorization does not expand the scope of practice for these health care professionals and becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
